Humongous Bail Amounts

Here at Dennis Blackwell bail bonds, we provide bail bonds for typical cases in Colorado Springs. The types of bail bonds we provide are some of the most common types, and are usually for lower-level offenses, like theft. This is because we provide members of the Colorado Springs and Pueblo communities, and there are very few extreme crimes committed. Here are some unusual historical instances when bail has been set at an exorbitant amount. Most Expensive Bails The most expensive bail of all time was handed down to Micheal Milken, clocking in at 250 million dollars. He was convicted of insider trading in the stock market in 1989, resulting in the largest criminal investigation on Wall Street in history. He ended up making around 1.8 billion dollars from his illegal inside trading. After some quick math, this means that the 250-million-dollar bail was only 13.8% of his earned 1.8 billion dollars. Today, that 250 million dollars equals around 489 million dollars. The third most expensive bail was handed down to Raj Rajaratnam, coming in at 100 million dollars. Rajaratnam was charged with insider trading, like Milken. This case is still pending, so the exact amount of money that he made from his illegal trading has not yet been disclosed. With all of these huge bail amounts in mind, it is good to note that though they are high, they are not violating the eighth amendment of the United States Constitution. As a refresher, the eighth amendment deals with limiting excessive bail. To any ordinary person, these amounts are excessive but to these individuals, it is not. Did You Know? Facts about Bail Bonds

Though bail is a cultural touchstone for crime dramas and police television shows, not many people know a lot about it. Generally, it is understood as the amount set by a judge to be paid by someone who is due to be in court to face criminal charges. But is much known about them besides this? To the everyday person, not really. That is why in this blog we will be discussing some little-known facts about bail bonds! Let us start off with one that might surprise you; bail is not always a sure thing. That is right! A judge can deny bail if they feel it is necessary. This is usually pertaining to more serious crimes such as murder though, so it is not extremely common. One extremely little-known fact is that bail bond laws change based on each state. So, if the same crime is committed in Wisconsin and California, there are state laws that regulate the bail bonds for that crime. This is why it is important to choose a local and experience bail bonds provider who understands the local laws! The next fact is that there must be someone who is responsible for the individual who is going to show up to the court to face charges, this person is called a co-signer. They ensure that the accused shows up to face their charges, and are responsible for fees if that individual does not show up. When dealing with bail bonds this person is a bail bondsman. Now that you know a little bit more about bail bonds you can make the right choice and contact Dennis Blackwell Bail Bonds today! We are a local and dependable bail bonds provider that has been servicing Colorado Springs for years! We provide 24 hours bail bonds! Check out our website for additional information.
Know Your Rights!

As a resident of any country is it extremely important to know your rights as designated by the country’s national legal documents. For the United States of America, the Constitution is the national legal document that governs the rights of U.S. residents. Perhaps the most iconic part of the Constitution is the Bill of rights, which grants all residents the same rights. It is important to understand all of these rights, but if you are someone who has committed a crime, there are two amendments that are essential to know. The first one is that of the Fifth Amendment. This amendment covers a lot of detail about what rights a perpetrator of a crime has. Let’s begin by breaking down a few parts of this amendment. The first part of it states that “No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise, infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury…” this means that even when someone has committed a heinous crime, they still get the right to a trial. The next part states that “nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy…” this means that someone cannot be charged for the same crime twice. The final part of this amendment that will be discussed states that, “nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself” which means that someone has the right to not incriminate one’s self. This final part is often why people “plead the fifth” when they are being arrested. The second amendment of importance is the Eighth Amendment (the history of this amendment has been covered in a previous blog post). The Eighth Amendment states that “Excessive bail shall not be required…” which means that when bail is set, it must be done so in a manner that is fair to the convicted. This keeps it to where a judge is not able to set an unrealistic bail. This amendment is one of the reasons that bail bonds are so helpful! By keeping bail at a reasonable amount, many different types of people can seek the assistance of a bail bondsman. Here at Dennis Blackwell Bail Bonds, we make sure that our 24-hour bail bonds are an option! Visit our website to learn more about bail bonds in Colorado Springs and bail bonds in Pueblo CO! Dishonesty Runs Thick Through Competitor’s Tactics

Dishonesty runs thick. Hiring an honest bail bondsman can provide more benefits than simply getting the best price for service. Being able to trust your bondsman can make the stressful process of getting yourself or your loved one out of jail a lot easier and a whole lot more comprehensive. At Dennis Blackwell bail bonds we strive to uphold impeccable standards of honesty and morality in every transaction we oversee. Unfortunately, some other bail bond agencies do not adhere to the same ethics. We recently received an email from a client that was so surprising, we felt compelled to share. The email (names deleted for privacy) appears in part below. Hi Dennis, I spoke with you approximately 2 week ago bonding my boyfriend out of CJC. You had given me a total $1850 down and a signature. I decided to call around and compare when I spoke to someone at another office and told them I would probably go through your office as you were about $300 cheaper I was told, “I’d be careful he may not be in business to much longer.” This statement kind of scared me as the thought of what would happen to the person I bonded out if you went out of business. Does that mean the bond is revoked? Is it transferred to another bondsman? I called back to ask the gentlemen about his statement and he informed me that “the bond would be revoked and my boyfriend back in jail.” Then he stated “I can’t guarantee this would happen but I’ve seen 15 bondsman go out of business this year.” This almost made me go straight to another company for the bond, however, I’m glad I called to inquire about your possibly going out of business. I’m irritated with that other bondsman’s scare tactics he is using to gain business. I will never go through this company because of it, and I will definitely talk people out of using him and steer them towards you, an honest, trustworthy company. Thank you for all your help!! We find it very hard to believe that a company would try to manipulate a client in this way. Acquiring a bail bond is often a stressful and confusing event, and to add to that stress by providing bad information is just plain unkind. Dennis Blackwell had been issuing bail bonds for over 20 years and he is not, nor has he ever been, close to going out of business. Instead, Dennis Blackwell Bail Bonds continues to thrive on its strong foundation of honesty and integrity. We advise anyone looking for a bail bond to consult with a trusted source before deciding which company to use! We hope you enjoyed this post about how dishonesty runs thick.
